WordPress themes

2/21/16

Theme 1: Split https://themify.me/themes/split

This theme will allow me to display all elements of my 490 project front and center. I can divide my print piece, my photos, my video piece and my data into their own separate areas on my webpage. This way, it’s easy to navigate and speaks for itself. When people go online, they want to have the content they’re looking for easily available so they can get to the story. With the Split WordPress theme, my website will be as user-friendly as possible

Theme 2: Pique https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/pique/

Pique is meant to seem pleasant and more accessible to users. The layout spreads each section of the blog out so that the user can easily scroll down to find whatever they’re looking for. My website will be as user-friendly as possible so that any questions users might have can be answered with just a scroll down a webpage. Pique also looks very tidy with a fancier font style and using photos as background photos. This could be interesting since my topic is drones and using photos and video clips of drones flying would be interesting added value.

Theme 3: Cubic https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/cubic/

Cubic allows single pages to be large enough for room to expand on topics. Each individual page has the option of using a large photo or video as the header and plenty of room to expand on a topic. While Cubic claims its focus is for photoblogging, my topic can have great added value with photos and video clips that would fit very well with the Cubic theme. The visual element of a story can be just as important as the written element, so Cubic takes special care of the visual element.

Theme 4: Periodical https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/periodical/

In contrast to Cubic, Periodical could work more with the written news element of my story. It focuses more on organizing the various subjects to be discussed in my story (legislation, commercial pilots, restrictions, public perception) into something easily searched for within the website. The Category Menu will allow for quicker access to the overall progress of my story and any specific element readers would be looking for.

Theme 5: Patch https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/patch/
Patch looks like the layout of a newspaper, creating more of an interesting look for a website. With that, each element of the story can be displayed front and center so readers can figure out what specific element they want to focus on first. It also organizes itself on the homepage by the size of the photo used, so one could emphasize the importance of certain elements depending on how dynamic the images are.
